What is KO-CHA!

KO-CHA! is an app that weaponises your phone, enabling you to prank and play combat games with your friends. 

Essentially, you capture a photograph of a friend through the app’s viewfinder, and then you press on their face. If face detection recognises that a headshot has been made then an animation is generated showing your friend getting furiously pasted by your selected weapon - as well as a ‘crow’ animation carrying your actual face gloating in one of our skins. The resulting video is played immediately on your phone as well as being sent to your friend’s phone, so they know they have been hit by you. Points are scored for and against by whoever has the app. Friends you shoot who don’t have the app receive your mischief via WhatsApp, SMS etc.

The format is simple, but the opportunities for fun are enormous. As a tool for everyday pranking, the non-violent weapons of KO-CHA! enable a wide variety of different uses. You can throw a cake at your friend on their birthday, spring an ambush with a sci fi blaster or blow them up in a cloud of dust if you want. The story is yours to tell. 

Where KO-CHA! really comes into its own though is live combat games. Utilising the zoom feature, you can hit targets from 100 feet away, which is further than most people could hit a cow with a real paintball gun. You can hit targets at full sprint, even in the back if you know how. 

Any paintball or laser tag game you can think of can be played with KO-CHA! - and this is only touching the surface. With no paintballs to harm anybody or mess the place up, with no lasers or military looking apparatus to draw attention, you can play KO-CHA! anywhere: your house, museums, art galleries, supermarkets...even your place of work. Nobody need know what you are up to. People use their phones everywhere now and from the outside you don’t look any different when you play KO-CHA! Actually maybe you do. You are out of breath. You are laughing. Your friends are grinning and groaning in turn. What bystanders don’t know is that you are each lethal assassins battling it out in a raging turf war, played out on the real world stage.
